New Medics, New Adventures

Adventure Medic then and now

The first issue of Adventure Medic, conceived in December 2011, released in Summer 2012, alongside the magazine today.

We are delighted to announce that from 2021, Adventure Medic will be in the capable hands of the next generation of adventurous medics, led by Shona Main, Rebecca Trimble and Tom Beddis.

We’ve come a long way together. My first taste of expedition medicine was on the APEX2 Altitude Expedition to Bolivia as a medical student in 2003. Eleven years later, fellow Adventure Medic founder Ellie Heath and I were the expedition doctors on the APEX4 expedition. There, we met Shona, Rebecca and Tom, then students themselves. It was clear that they were stars in the making, and they soon joined our Adventure Medic team. Now, they are qualified, adventuring and taking over the reins.

Adventure Medic is nearly ten years old. We started it as a group of friends, to support our fellow medics in pursuing interesting, charitable or unusual paths through life. We are delighted that this group of friends has become a worldwide community. We have tried to stay true to our values as the magazine has grown, and serving our community has been a privilege and a source of joy. Reading about all your adventures over the years has been inspirational.

We want to thank everyone who has contributed to the magazine since it began. It has truly been a team effort and will always be so. We are excited to leave Adventure Medic in such capable hands. We know that the new team will continue our mission with enthusiasm. We remain as passionate about adventure as ever.

Keep reading and best wishes. Here’s to the next ten years!

Matt
